Vital Records

The Hartford Bureau of Vital Records have on file births, civil unions, deaths and marriage certificates for events that occurred only in the City of Hartford from 1852 to the present. If the event did not occur in Hartford please contact the town of occurrence for a copy of your record.

Request a Birth Certificate

Request a birth certificate for an individual born in the City of Hartford. Birth records of 100 years or older are public information and do not require identification.

Obtain a Death Certificate

Request a death certificate for someone who passed away in the City of Hartford. A Hartford death certificate may be obtained in person, or through a mailed-in request.

Obtain a Marriage Certificate

Request a marriage certificate for someone who was wed in the City of Hartford.

Obtain a Marriage License

You need a marriage license if you are going to get married. A marriage license must be obtained from the city/town in which the ceremony is to occur.
