Request a marriage certificate for someone who was wed in the City of Hartford.

The Bureau of Vital Records is participating in the VitalChek Network to allow individuals to conveniently order needed certificates directly online.

  • You may place an order for a marriage certificate through VitalChek 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Our office will process your order only during regular business hours. Please note that most express carriers will not deliver to a PO box.
  • You may inquire as to the shipping and handling fees for regular, international, or Saturday deliveries by calling VitalChek.

Marriage Certificates can be obtained via mail from the Bureau of Vital Records by doing the following:

  • Copies are $20 per certified copy
  • Purchases can be made with money order only, payable to the City of Hartford.
  • City of Hartford Vital Records does not accept personal checks

Marriage Certificates can be obtained immediately in person at the Bureau of Vital Records.  Here's how!

  • Be sure have the correct date of marriage and information for the married parties

  • Purchases can be made with cash or money order payable to the City of Hartford.
  • City of Hartford Vital Records accepts credit cards or online orders, visit the online tab to place orders using a credit card through VitalChek
  • City of Hartford Vital Records does not accept personal checks

Marriage Certificate Memo as of January 08, 2025

Effective January 9, 2024, there will be a mandatory 48-hour waiting period for obtaining a certified marriage certificate after the submission of a marriage license. This change aligns with a recent recommendation from the Connecticut State Department of Public Health and is intended to improve the processing and verification of marriage records.
