Ann Uccello Pedestrian Plaza
The Ann Uccello Pedestrian Plaza is a project currently under design to convert the northern segment of Ann Uccello Street into a pedestrian plaza. This project is located in the Arrowhead Block and Arrowhead Gateway area.
The plaza is intended to support local businesses, host community events and programming, engage local artists, and celebrate the Arrowhead Gateway’s identity. The idea for a pedestrian plaza emerged from the Arrowhead Small Area Plan and Corridor Study. On both sides of the Ann Uccello Pedestrian Plaza are the historic “Flat Iron” building (525 & 529 Ann Uccello), and the “Arrowhead” building (1355 Main), which are being renovated and expanded to provide new apartments and retail/commercial space.

The Arrowhead Block is directly north of Parcel A of the Downtown North development. The development of the Arrowhead Block and Downtown North is one of the Ten Transformative Projects identified in the City’s Plan of Conservation and Development:
“Let's position the Downtown North project as the gateway from downtown to North Main and Albany Avenues, and ensure that Clay Arsenal benefits from amenities and opportunities that follow.” ~City of Hartford Plan of Conservation and Development
The Ann Uccello Pedestrian Plaza is being designed by Hartford-based Freeman Companies. Design and construction of the plaza is supported by a $1,300,000 Connecticut Community Challenge Grant, and City-funding.
Community workshops were held October 7th, 2023 and December 11th, 2023. Additional opportunities for public input will be available before designs are finalized
