Mayor's Key Priority: Hartford Comes Together to Tackle to Local Unemployment

Solving for Sustainable Employment for Hartford residents

Through this new global initiative, we're working to better understand — and solve — the root causes of unemployment at the local level, in our city.
  • Over 4.6% of Hartford residents are unemployed or under-employed.
  • Systemic barriers, skill mismatches, and limited access to training persist.
  • We’re ready to take bold, data-driven steps forward.

Global Learnings for Local Impact

In 2024, Hartford was selected as one of 38 cities worldwide to participate in the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative. The program equips city halls with leadership and management learnings to tackle complex challenges and improve residents’ quality of life.

City staff and our locally invested corporations joined the Initiative’s Collaboration track to start co-designing a solution built for Hartford — with the people of Hartford.
