The City of Hartford is preparing a Citywide Parks and Trails Connectivity Plan to strengthen the network of parks, greenways, and multi-use trails in and around the City. The plan will identify opportunities to link existing and planned routes into a safer, more accessible, and better-connected system for everyone.
The project is funded by a $160,000 Connecticut Recreational Trails Grant awarded through the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) under the Connecticut Bikeway, Pedestrian Walkway, Recreational Trail and Greenway Grant Program. The City is working with IMEG Consultants Corporation to develop the plan, which began in February 2026 and is scheduled for completion in early 2027.
Process
The planning process includes a technical review of Hartford's existing parks and trail connections, analysis of gaps in the network, coordination with state and regional partners, and community engagement to hear directly from residents about how they use — and want to use — the city's parks and trails. These findings will shape a set of prioritized recommendations for a connected citywide network. A priority connection will be selected to move into design documents for future construction.
