Killed in the line of duty September 6, 2023 Hartford, Connecticut
Detective Robert C Garten was tragically lost on September 6, 2023, when his patrol car was hit by a vehicle fleeing a traffic stop at Asylum Avenue and Broad Street. Despite not being pursued, the fleeing vehicle ran a red light at Farmington Avenue and collided with Garten's cruiser, which was responding to another call with activated emergency light signals. Detective Garten, who had served eight years with the Hartford Police Department, was posthumously promoted to detective. Garten, a second-generation officer, is remembered by his family, including his family and co-workers.
