MAYOR BRONIN RELEASES PROPOSED BUDGET FOR HARTFORD FY2024

HARTFORD, CONN (March 27, 2023) – Today, Mayor Luke Bronin delivered his proposed City budget for Fiscal Year 2024 to Hartford Court of Common Council for their review and consideration. The $619.17 million proposal includes tax relief for seniors, does not include any new borrowing or use of one-time revenues, fully funds the pension contribution, and makes responsible investments in personnel and city services. Mayor Bronin issued the following statement regarding his proposed budget:
“This is my last budget as mayor, and it protects the progress we've made in putting Hartford on a sound, sustainable path,” said Mayor Bronin. “We reduced the property tax rate last year by the largest amount in three decades, and this budget includes additional tax relief for seniors. We haven't added a dollar of debt since 2016, and this budget sticks to that commitment, while making important investments in public works and in critical areas like housing inspection, the fire marshal’s office, and 9-1-1 dispatch. This budget would allow us to expand hours and programming at our recreation centers and libraries, because our families deserve it.
“In the years ahead, we have to stay disciplined. The progress we have made is real, but fragile. If we stay the course, budget with care, recognize that we will always face difficult choices, and make those choices with a view to the long-term health of our city, then we will have done our job of building a stronger Hartford. That's what this budget tries to do. Every budget involves negotiation, but this budget reflects the priorities I've heard from our community, while protecting the hard-won progress toward fiscal strength and stability."
The mayor will give his annual State of the City address in the Council Chambers at City Hall at 5:00pm on Monday, March 27th. An initial public hearing on the budget proposal will be held on April 5th at Weaver High School, beginning at 6:00pm.
