8 PM TONIGHT: MAYOR BRONIN ACTIVATES SNOW PARKING BAN
Published on January 28, 2022
HARTFORD, CONN. (January 28, 2022) – Due to the impending snowstorm, Mayor Luke Bronin is activating a snow parking ban for the City of Hartford, beginning at 8 PM tonight. A later announcement will be made on when the parking ban will be lifted, depending on the amount of snowfall, but the ban is anticipated to end Sunday morning.
“While there is still uncertainty in the forecasts, it looks like we’re going to get significant snowfall overnight and throughout the day tomorrow,” said Mayor Bronin. “Please respect the parking ban and move your car off the street so that our Public Works team can get their job done as quickly and safely as possible. We expect the parking ban to end by Sunday morning but will provide updates as soon as we know the extent of this storm.”
Mayor Bronin also encouraged residents to sign up to receive alerts from the City of Hartford’s emergency alert program at this link. “For rapid information on parking bans, closures, or other emergencies, this is the best way to stay connected and up-to-date.”
During a snow parking ban, all on-street parking is prohibited throughout the City of Hartford. Any vehicles not removed from City streets by the start of the parking ban may be ticketed and towed. Residents without access to off-street parking may move their vehicles to one of the authorized parking areas including Blue Light Lots, City Parks, and City Recreation and Senior Centers. Residents can also move their cars to Hartford Public Schools parking lots. See below for more information on these lots.
To notify the public a parking ban is in effect, sixteen major intersections will be illuminated with blue light beginning 6 hours before the parking ban and they will remain illuminated throughout the duration of the parking ban.
Nine Blue Light Lots are dedicated solely for use during snow parking bans. These designated Blue Light Lots will provide more parking options for residents who do not have access to off-street parking. Blue Light and City lots will open at 2 PM while Hartford Public Schools lots will open later, at 6 PM.
Vehicles must be removed from City and Blue Light Lots within ten hours after the snow parking ban has been lifted. Vehicles must be removed from Hartford Public Schools lots within two hours.
