HARTFORD, CONN (April 10, 2020) – Mayor Luke Bronin issued the following statement regarding the establishment of a hospital annex site at the Connecticut Convention Center. Tomorrow, the Connecticut National Guard will begin setting up the Connecticut Convention Center as an auxiliary site with 646 beds for Hartford Hospital. The Convention Center will be the largest hospital annex space in Connecticut to this point.
“We hope a hospital annex of this size will not be necessary, but we need to be as prepared as possible as the number of coronavirus cases continues to increase in the Hartford region,” said Mayor Luke Bronin. “With 646 beds, this annex site represents a dramatic increase in hospital bed capacity, and we are grateful to our partners at Hartford HealthCare, the State of Connecticut, and the Connecticut National Guard. In the Hartford region we may still be weeks away from the peak, and every single one of us has a role to play in flattening the curve. We’re fortunate to have outstanding hospitals and tremendous partnerships at both the state and local levels, and we are working together to do everything we can to prepare for the weeks ahead and keep our community healthy and safe.”
