Department Head

Ebony Jackson-Shaheed, MPH

Ebony Jackson-Shaheed is Hartford’s Director of Health and Human Services, a public health executive and neuro-epidemiologist with over 10 years of experience. A former municipal health director, adjunct professor at the University of Bridgeport, and Yale-trained neurology fellow, she is committed to advancing urban population health through leadership, education, and community engagement.

Community Services

The Community Services Division focuses on improving residents' quality of life through programs that promote equitable homeownership, mental wellness, supportive justice alternatives, crisis intervention, and assistance for individuals facing homelessness. These programs help residents achieve stability, self-sufficiency, and well-being.

Disease Prevention and Health Promotion

The Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Division protects Hartford residents by preventing communicable diseases, promoting wellness, reducing health disparities, and improving community well-being. Find information and services for TB, STIs, flu, COVID-19, and other diseases, including testing, screenings, vaccinations, prevention education, treatment referrals, and support services.

Environmental Health

Environmental Health & Licensing

The Environmental Health Division protects the health and safety of Hartford residents by promoting clean, safe, and healthy environments. Resources for Hartford residents and local businesses include food safety and licensing, restaurant health concern reporting, rodent complaint reporting, lead safety resources, and licensing for food vendors, salons, body art businesses, and swimming pools.

Maternal and Child Health

Maternal & Child Health

MCH has programs and services for pregnant women, parents, children, and families in Hartford. Services focus on healthy pregnancies, improving birth outcomes, prenatal and postnatal support, breastfeeding and nutrition resources, child development, car seat safety, and connecting families with essential healthcare and community resources.

Senior Services

The Senior Services Division is dedicated to helping older adults to support independence and well-being by offering various programs and services to enhance the quality of life for seniors and create a sense of community.
