Commissioners help improve the status of women in Hartford, study the conditions and needs of women of the city; hold forums or public meetings to gather information; provide information to the public; conduct outreach to encourage public participation to improve the status of women; serve as a mediator in matters concerning women; review and assess the effect of City programs and practices, including employment, wages, and benefits, on female employees of the City; make recommendations to Council regarding policies and practices as they affect women; and make recommendations for State statutory changes.
