HR 218 HARTFORD POLICE RETIREE QUALIFICATIONS

The Hartford Police Department will hold HR218 LEOSA qualifications for Hartford Police retirees who retired in good standing.  The course will include both classroom safety brief and live fire qualifications.  Retirees must certify that they meet the standards for a qualified retired law enforcement officer in the HR218 federal statute.

To participate in a LEOSA retiree qualification

  • Email Sgt. John Cavanna at CAVAJ001@hartford.gov to reserve a spot.  NOTE: no walk ons will be accepted, all participants must pre-register by emailing Sgt. Cavanna.
  • Bring your completed Retiree Concealed Handgun Authorization Application and Release and Indemnification forms to the range with you.
  • A letter certifying retirement or separation in good standing from any other police department the retiree has worked for.
  • Bring the retiree photo identification issued by the HPD Personnel Division and a valid Connecticut pistol permit (retirees who do not bring these documents will not be allowed to participate)

Retirees must bring their own ammunition, a retention holster, a belt holder for spare ammunition, eye protection and ear protection
