The Bartholomew Avenue streetscape, or the “Parkville Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Stormwater Infrastructure & Streetscape Improvements Project”, is an infrastructure initiative that will enhance Bartholomew Avenue from Park Street to the terminus of the Avenue south of Hamilton Street.
This project is funded by a competitive state TOD grant, which recognized the importance of enhancing the environment on Bartholomew Avenue so that it can take advantage of the development potential conferred by its proximity to the Park Street station of CTfastrak. The MDC is also providing funding for the project so that a redirected sewer line can be constructed as part of the project. The City has committed both design and construction funds to the project. CDM Smith is providing design services for the project. Design began in 2017 with public outreach meetings held at several points in the process.
The design addresses public realm improvements including new curbs and sidewalks, pavement reconstruction, bike amenities, landscaping, and lighting, including lighting under the rail and CTfastrak viaducts over Park Street, landscaping and pavement reconstruction. Construction is now underway, and the project is expected to wrap up by the end of 2022.
