Amilcar Hernandez was appointed to the Court of Common Council on April 10, 2023. Although Amilcar grew up in Puerto Rico, he has been a long-time resident of Hartford where he has worked for the last 20 years on both the Hartford Public Schools and as the Controller for a youth development non-profit organization. Councilman Hernandez earned a Bachelors of Business in Accounting and holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in Organizational Leadership from Southern New Hampshire University. Councilman Hernandez is presently a voting member of Health & Human Services,Planning, Economic Development & Housing, Labor, Education, Workforce & Youth, Quality of Life & Public Safety & Operations, Management, Budget & Government Accountability. Councilman Hernandez is a firm believer in giving back to our community. Currently, he serves as the Vice-Chair for the Southwest and Behind the Rocks NRZ. He is also the Treasurer for CICD Puerto Rican Parade, Inc. Participating in these groups and organizations has allowed him the opportunity to listen to his neighbors, hear their concerns, questions, and ideas, and work to make our city a better one. His experience building, implement, and manage many local, state, and federal grants has allowed him to gain a vast knowledge of all fiscal related components of government funding.
