The first phase of the Farmington Avenue streetscape project was completed from Marshall Street to the vicinity of Denison Street in the Spring 2016. The City received state Urban Act Grant funding in the amount of a total of $10.8 million to help complete the streetscape to its western limit at Prospect Street.
With these funds, the City secured the services of a consulting engineer, Beta Group, with subcontractors FHI, Inc. and Toole Design Group, to complete the design and prepare construction documents. The design includes curb bumpouts to shorten pedestrian street crossing distances, new curbs and sidewalks, decorative lighting, bicycle facilities, landscaping, and traffic signal upgrades.
The project was bid out in Fall of 2023 and awarded to Nunes Construction. Construction activities began in Spring 2024 and continue into 2025. A general construction schedule for 2024 is below.
PROJECT AREA - Farmington Ave from Prospect Ave to Dennison St. In 2024, the project team anticipates that most of the construction work will be focused in the area between Prospect Ave and Whitney St, with the exception of drainage installation. In 2025, most of the construction work will be focused between Whitney St and Dennison St.
