Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission (PRAC)

PRAC studies and recommends policies and procedures for public use of parks, parks management, and recreational programs.

Commissioners advise the Public Works - Parks & Recreation Division and the City Council on recreation and park maintenance services; make studies and recommendations concerning the use of parks by the general public, park management, park policies and recreation programs; seek working relationships with schools, community and civic organizations; provide the general public with information and education on recreation and park maintenance; and serve as the contact point for the public to express their opinions and requests on recreational programming.

Membership Criteria

  • Representatives of the Friends of Parks groups
  • Mayor, Chairman of Council’s Public Works, Parks & Environment Committee, DPW Director or designee – Parks Maintenance
  • FCYR Director or designee – Recreation

In 2017, the Hartford Court of Common Council voted unanimously to utilize a free platform known as www.meetinginfo.org for Boards & Commissions to easily post their meeting agendas and meeting minutes online.
