Hartford Town Hall On American Rescue Plan, Local Funding Priorities

Published on March 11, 2021

HARTFORD, CONN (March 11, 2021) – Today Mayor Luke Bronin and the Hartford City Council announced that the City of Hartford will hold a virtual town hall on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at 6 PM to get feedback from residents about the American Rescue Plan that is poised to be signed into law by President Biden.  If enacted, the plan would provide significant funding directly to cities like Hartford to aid in COVID-19 recovery.  Cities would be able to decide how to spend that funding, within federal guidelines that are yet to be fully determined.

“Our federal delegation did tremendous work designing and passing the American Recovery Plan, and we’re deeply grateful for their leadership,” said Mayor Bronin.  “We are determined to spend the resources we receive from this relief package strategically and with care, prioritizing long-term impact in our community.  There is still a lot we need to learn about how we can spend this funding, but we want to begin that discussion with our community with this town hall.”

Residents can access the town hall using this Zoom link on March 23 at 6 PM: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88019759571.  They can also call in by dialing +1 301 715 8592 and entering the code 880 1975 9571.  Residents will be able to ask questions in Spanish, and key points will be summarized in Spanish.

“This funding will be critical to facilitating a strong recovery from the pandemic, and I want to thank our federal delegation for their work on our behalf,” said City Council President Maly D. Rosado.  “We want our community to be involved in the process as the Mayor and the City Council decide how to spend these resources, and this town hall is an opportunity for that engagement.”

“We need to do everything we can to recover quickly and fully from this pandemic, and this funding secured by our federal legislative delegation will be very helpful,” said City Council Majority Leader Thomas “T.J.” Clarke.  “This town hall will be an opportunity to talk with our community about how we can use this funding, and to hear their thoughts and ideas.”
