MIDNIGHT TONIGHT: MAYOR BRONIN ACTIVATES 24-HOUR SNOW PARKING BAN

Published on January 06, 2022

HARTFORD, CONN. (January 6, 2022) – Mayor Luke Bronin is activating a 24-hour snow parking ban for the City of Hartford, beginning at midnight tonight (12:00 AM on Friday, January 7th) and ending at 11:59 PM on Friday, January 7th. City sanitation services will go on as scheduled on Friday.

“The forecasts are showing heavy snowfall overnight and in the morning hours, and it's important that we keep the roads clear and let our DPW team clear the streets as quickly and safely as possible," said Mayor Bronin.  "This is the first parking ban of the year, and I ask all residents to respect the ban and get your vehicle off the street.  Forecasts right now range from three to five inches, and as our DPW team prepares for the cleanup work, let's help them out by keeping the roads clear."

During a snow parking ban, all on-street parking is prohibited throughout the City of Hartford. Any vehicles not removed from City streets by the start of the parking ban will be ticketed and towed.  Residents without access to off-street parking may move their vehicles to one of the authorized parking areas including Blue Light Lots, City Parks, and City Recreation and Senior Centers. Residents can also move their cars to Hartford Public Schools parking lots. See below for more information on these lots.

To notify the public a parking ban is in effect, sixteen major intersections will be illuminated with blue light beginning 6 hours before the parking ban and they will remain illuminated throughout the duration of the parking ban.

Eight Blue Light Lots are dedicated solely for use during snow parking bans.  These designated Blue Light Lots will provide more parking options for residents who do not have access to off-street parking.

Vehicles must be removed from City and Blue Light Lots, as well as Hartford Public Schools lots within ten hours after the snow parking ban has been lifted. Residents must remove their vehicles from these lots by 10 AM on Saturday, January 8th.

Mayor Bronin also encouraged residents to sign up to receive alerts from the City of Hartford by registering online here. “We encourage residents to sign up for these alerts so that they can get timely, important information about what’s happening in the City – including parking bans.”
