HARTFORD, CONN (August 18, 2020) – This morning, Mayor Luke Bronin, City Council President Maly D. Rosado, Clay Fowler, Chairman and CEO of Spinnaker Real Estate Partners, Rohan Freeman, President of 7 Summits Realty, and other city and State officials broke ground on a 126-unit mixed-use development at Park Street and Main Street in Hartford.  Construction is expected to be completed in 2021, and the development will feature studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments, as well as 23,460 square feet of commercial space.  Twenty percent of the units will be reserved for affordable, workforce housing.  Prior to this impending development, the lots at the intersection of Park Street and Main Street in Hartford have been vacant for more than thirty years.

“These lots at the corner of Park Street and Main Street have stood vacant for thirty years, and today we're breaking ground on a development that will bring this corner back to life -- with a mixed-income, mixed-use development that will be a new gateway to Park Street, and will knit the neighborhood back together,” said Mayor Luke Bronin.  “Park and Main is a key location in the city, and this development is just one part of a broader effort along this corridor, along with the new Park Street library branch under construction, affordable housing at Park Terrace, and the new Parkville Market.  This project is only possible because the residents and businesses in the neighborhood, the city, the State, and the private sector have all come together around a common vision.  We are very grateful to the Capital Region Development Authority, the Spanish American Merchants Association, our dedicated team at Development Services, and our development partners, for their hard work and commitment to this project.”

“Today’s groundbreaking is yet another example of how we are working together to move our city forward,” said Council President Rosado.  “This development has been a long time coming and for everyone who is interested in calling Hartford home we welcome you in 2021 to the new Park Street and Main Street complex.  I am especially proud because this is an area that welcomed my family and I with open arms when other areas would not rent to us because of the color of our skin.  I would like to thank Mayor Bronin for his leadership as well as the Department of Development Services.  I also want to recognize the many individuals who have dedicated their time to this project, your support, commitment and hard work have once again contributed to the long-term success of our city.”

“Park and Main has long been recognized as the entrance to the most vibrant business corridor in Hartford,” said State Senator John Fonfara.  “I’m proud of our work with the State to secure critical funding for this project, and I am grateful to the many local, state, and private sector partners who are making this project a reality after so many decades. “

“The Park and Main development is a critical piece of connecting our South End community with Downtown,” said State Representative Julio Concepcion.  “This development also adds to a great deal of investment in the Park Street area, including a new library, affordable housing, infrastructure improvements, and Parkville Market.  I want to thank all of those involved in making this a reality, particularly the residents who fought hard for this project for so many years.”
