Published on October 19, 2021

HARTFORD, CONN (October 19, 2021) – Today, Mayor Luke Bronin, alongside sponsors and community leaders, officially launched the inaugural “Love Hartford Week”.  The five-day event is dedicated towards civic service and giving back to the city, with hundreds of volunteers already signed up for dozens of community beautification projects across Hartford.  There will be at least one project in each neighborhood of Hartford, with projects ranging from trail clean-ups to park beautifications.

“This week is an opportunity for people to give back to our great city, whether you live here, work here, or just love this city,” said Mayor Luke Bronin.  “It has been great to see the reception to ‘Love Hartford Week’, not only from our partners, but from the entire community.  Hundreds of volunteers have signed up, of all ages and from every neighborhood, including entire offices taking time out of their workdays to join the cleanup efforts.  I want to thank Comcast and all our sponsors for helping support this week, and I want to thank our Office of Community Engagement for organizing this event.  I look forward to making ‘Love Hartford Week’ a new tradition.”

“Comcast’s commitment to employee volunteerism, through our Comcast Cares program, has helped strengthen the communities where we all live and work for nearly two decades,” said Daniel Glanville, Vice President of Government Affairs and Community Impact, Comcast’s Western New England Region.  “We are pleased to partner with the City of Hartford, KNOX Hartford, United Way Central and Northeastern Connecticut, and community members from across the area to show our support for Hartford by beautifying its parks, neighborhoods and community gardens.”

“The Hartford Foundation is excited to partner with the City and many others for the launch of Love Hartford Week,” said Jay Williams, President of the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.  “Efforts like these are helping to reconnect people to Hartford and are a vital part of the post-pandemic recovery and create citywide resiliency.  This week represents a great opportunity for more residents to engage with their neighbors and to highlight our many neighborhood assets such as parks and other public spaces.”

“We’re proud to be a partner in ‘Love Hartford Week’,” said Paula Gilberto, president and CEO of United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut.  “Bringing people, resources and organizations together for the well-being of children and families is our mission.  Partnering on ‘Love Hartford’ and helping to recruit the hundreds of volunteers committed to community projects this week bring that mission alive in our Capital City.”

“We’ve been working on this since 2020 and are excited to support all tree planting and clean-up efforts planned,” stated KNOX Executive Director Patrick Doyle.  “Working with the City to complete a wide variety of projects that clean and beautify Hartford over several days is rewarding, but seeing people from all walks of life coming together to support their city means even more.”

Interested volunteers can register at https://www.hartfordct.gov/lovehartfordweek for multiple events taking place daily in neighborhoods across the city.  The week of public service projects will culminate in a Volunteer Appreciation event at Dunkin Donuts Park on October 23rd from 2 PM to 4 PM. Those who joined volunteer activities in Hartford over the past year will be invited for free food, entertainment and more.

‘Love Hartford Week’ is made possible by the presenting sponsor, Comcast/NBC Universal, as well as the celebration sponsor CVS Health; Aetna, a CVS Health Company.  Program partners include KNOX, Inc., United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut, the Yard Goats Foundation and the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.
