Coronavirus Documentary Highlighting Community Resilience & Dedication

Published on November 25, 2020

HARTFORD, CONN (November 25, 2020) – Today the City of Hartford released “After the Clouds,” a documentary chronicling the work of just a few of the many public, private, and non-profit partners who went – and continue to go –  above and beyond to serve the community during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.   It tells a story of resilience and dedication to others through a small number of vignettes featuring the City’s Department of Public Works, Hartford Public Schools, healthcare providers, companies, and non-profits.  Mayor Luke Bronin emphasized that this Thanksgiving is a time to reflect and express gratitude to the thousands of people who have stepped up and sacrificed for the greater good, whether through their professions or in their lives, and asked residents to follow their example over the holiday season by following coronavirus guidelines and avoiding large social gatherings.

“In countless ways big and small, we’ve seen thousands of people embody heroism and selflessness in our community and across the country,” said Mayor Luke Bronin.  “We wanted to tell that story of resilience, dedication, and commitment to community in Hartford – to shine a light on people who often get overlooked, and also to remind everyone that their individual choices in the coming weeks can have huge consequences for everyone around them.  We need to work together by staying apart, because that’s the only way we can keep schools open, keep our healthcare workers and essential workers of all kinds safe, and slow the spread of coronavirus.  I want to thank Pedro Bermudez and the entire team at Revisionist Films for their great work telling the story of just a few of the many heroes in our community.”

“This has been an incredibly difficult year for all of us, but it has also brought out the best in our community,” said City Council President Maly D. Rosado.  “I could not be prouder of the thousands of unsung heroes who work for the City and throughout Hartford, and to everyday residents who continue to step up in their own lives.  We all need to continue working together to control the virus and protect ourselves, our loved ones, and our fellow residents.  I am grateful to Pedro Bermudez and his team for putting together this moving reminder of the selfless dedication so many people have shown.”

This spring, the City commissioned Revisionist Films, a Hartford-based commercial and documentary film production company, to interview a wide range of community stakeholders and tell their stories.

“We wanted to focus on unexpected stories of everyday heroism, by individuals from completely different backgrounds across the city of Hartford,” said Pedro Bermudez, co-founder of Revisionist Films.  “The people profiled in this film have, in their own way, selflessly answered a call to serve. And as we began to interview them, we realized that part of telling their story was shining a light on the network of organizations, both big and small, that work side by side to help those in need. We’re grateful to Mayor Bronin, Thea Montanez and all the city staff we worked with for the honor of sharing these stories.”
