VIRTUAL PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING NOTICE

The Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a Virtual Public Information Meeting concerning the proposed Replacement of the Retaining Wall at the South End of Bridge No. 0176 on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will be live streamed via Microsoft Teams Live Event and YouTube Live. A Question and Answer (Q&A) session will immediately follow the presentation. The preservation will be recorded, instructions on how to access the meeting and on how to provide comments or ask questions can be found at the project webpage: https://portal.ct.gov/DOTHartford63-723

The live stream of the formal presentation will begin at 7:00 p.m. The project is identified as State Project No. 0063-0723.

The purpose of the project is to replace a failed retaining wall adjacent to the Artspace Building at 555 Asylum Avenue in Hartford. The failed wall, which supports the roadway of I-84 eastbound is anticipated to be removed and a new Soil Nail wall is to be constructed behind it. Demolition of the failed wall, and construction of the new wall, will result in the need for a construction access road to be built along the embankment ofl-84 eastbound, in order to allow for construction equipment to access the project site.

There are right-of-way impacts associated with this project as the failed wall is currently leaning on the privately owned Artspace Building. Additional impacts may include the need for the contractor to access the project site using the driveway to the Artspace Building and restricting access to parking spaces that are adjacent to the highway embankment.

Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2022 based onthe availability of funding, acquisition of rights of-way and approval of permits. The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $ 1.7 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 90 percent Federal Funds and 10 percent State funds.
