Asylum Ave Traffic Calming

In an effort to make measurable progress towards safer streets in Hartford, the City has been working to identify modifications to the Asylum Avenue corridor. The aim of this project is to help reduce speeding through traffic calming; improve facilities for alternate modes of transportation; and allow for safer crossings.

The limits of the project are from Prospect Avenue to Sumner Street, and street reconfiguration may include reduced lane widths to slow traffic, lane modification, bicycle facilities, new signage, and more (Asylum Ave Design Package - REVISED(PDF, 5MB)). Notably, there are complementary transportation projects occurring along or near the corridor, including the Trident Intersection at Broad/Farmington/Asylum, the Asylum/Sigourney intersection, the Sigourney Street Cycletrack, and other future activities. These other projects are under separate consideration for redesign improvements, but they also inform and support the overall efforts on the Asylum Ave corridor.
