Tree Advisory Commission

Purpose: To advise the City Forester, Council, and Mayor on tree-related issues and promote awareness of tree care, Hartford’s arboreal heritage, and benefits of urban forest Initial Duties 

The Commission develops and adopts a Master Tree Plan within 18 months; reviews the plan every five years and amends it as needed; creates an annual “State of the Forest” report; prepares policy and action recommendations to submit to Mayor and Council; hears and decides appeals from City Forester; and establishes a Legacy Tree Program

Number of Members: 9 voting; 1 non-voting

Membership Criteria

Appointed criteria:

  • 2 with professional competence, e.g. arborists, ornamental horticulturists, landscape architects/designers
  • 3 with interest in urban forest

 

Ex Officio:

  • Chair of Parks & Rec Commission
  • Chair of Council’s Public Works, Parks & Environment Committee
  • City Planner
  • Board of Ed Director of Buildings & Grounds
  • City Forester (non-voting)

In 2017, the Hartford Court of Common Council voted unanimously to utilize a free platform known as www.meetinginfo.org for Boards & Commissions to easily post their meeting agendas and meeting minutes online.
